I'm not saying Fallout 3 is a bad game, it's just that it has some flaws that make me want to throw it in the boiler. But since it broke down again I might as well tell some of the things that really piss me off in the game.
10. Boring background music - The music doesn't feel very tense or exciting compared to other games like STALKER or Half-Life. When you play games like that you feel apart of the game.
9. Stiff characters - The NPCs and the player character feel stiff and not very interactive. I know the open choice dialogue is cool but that doesn't make up for my character sliding all over the wasteland and evening moonwalking to places.
8. Lack of enemies - No matter where I go I always run into the same thing; wild dogs, mole rats, bloatflies etc. Sometimes I run into Talon Company or the Enclave but they don't put up much of a fight, but still once they're dead you can steal their shit and walk off like nothing happened.
7. Lack of atmosphere - In my opinion atmosphere is the most important part of gaming experience. When you play games like Silent Hill, STALKER or Call of Duty you feel like you're in the game with all the noises surrounding you and if a grenade exploded next to you, your ears ring and your vision becomes blurred. In Fallout 3 when you get hit by an explosive it doesn't feel the same since the Lone Wanderer is very stiff and lacks of emotion.
6. VATS - Before you go crazy I think VATS is a really cool feature but it isn't really reliable when you're cornered in a building and you can't hit a soup can from ten paces. For example when I used VATS on a bloatfly with an assault rifle, the emotionless asshole missed it completely, but when I did myself I managed to kill it. Either I don't have high enough small guns skill or if you want something done right you've got to do it yourself.
5. Impossible physics - The physics in the game aren't the worst but they could have been better. I came across a sniper on a bridge and I shot him in the head with a sniper rifle, doesn't a headshot usually kill people instantly? So anyway I took him out and when he fell fell off the bridge he started flying around place like he was on strings (which I spotted) and fell through the river. DON'T BODIES FLOAT ON WATER ANYMORE?
4. Easy enemies - I tried out operation Anchorage at a friends house and to be fair I enjoyed it but it was pretty short. So anyway I came across these highly trained Chinese elite soldiers called the Crimson Dragoon and I thought they would put up a real challenge. But instead they fall flat on their asses with a few pistol rounds. I thought they were supposed to be tough opponents but then again the Chinese couldn't fight for shit.
3. Fast travel - Fast travel can useful sometimes if you wanted to get to far away places in a hurry but it sucks the atmosphere out of the game. When you get there nothing seems to have changed or moved. In STALKER: Clear Sky you can choose to pay a guide to get to a place safely or if you have the vehicle mod you can just drive there, so I think they should've put vehicles in because walking to very far places is not fun.
2. Fast detiriorating weapons - The weapons break so fast and easily. I know they were trying to follow in STALKER's footsteps with the weapon condition but in that game the weapons last longer and in Clear Sky you can repair them. In Fallout 3 if you repair something it doesn't repair it fully unless you have 100 in repair skill. Maybe the weapons were made in Albania.
1. Invisible walls - This is the most annoying flaw in the entire game! If you are hiding behind a rock or one of the statues in Washington D.C. Your bullets always hit an invisible wall, even when there is plenty of room to shoot through or when you're at a distance you still miss them, I was about to snipe a raider, I had a clear shot but my bullet didn't hit him because of a small little metal pole sticking out and taking my shot with an invisible wall. But for some reason the NPCs can shoot through them so while I keep missing them they keep hitting me, AND THAT IS ENOUGH TO PISS OFF ANYONE!!!
So there you have the top 10 things I hate in Fallout 3. I hope I didn't make anyone angry I just wanted to tell you about these problems with the game, if they fix them then Fallout 3 would get a solid gold 10/10.
(suprise picture coming soon, I promise)
